From August 25th through August 28th, the City of Heath and FeeCorp Municipal Pipelining Division will be conducting leak tests of the sanitary sewer system in the Forest Hill Subdivision. The smoke test will reveal any places where storm and surface waters are entering the sewers and where sources of sewer odors may exist.
The testing consists of forcing a special, non-toxic smoke in the sewer lines. This smoke is manufactured specifically for this purpose. It will not leave any residue or stains and has no effect on plants and animals.
We advise that you run water into all drains for one minute, especially those that are infrequently used (i.e. basement drains) to avoid smoke from entering your structure unnecessarily.
Smoke should not enter your structure unless: 1) you have defective, damaged, or improperly installed traps, tubs, basins, showers, pipes, and/or connections; or 2) infrequently used drains are dry. If you do see or smell smoke in your structure, immediately report it to the workers in your area or call the Wastewater Department at 740.522.1420 x1.
Do not be concerned if you see testing smoke coming from your rooftop sewer vents as this is normal.
As part of the smoke testing process, you may notice paint markings on the street, curb, or grass. The paint is temporary and will disappear over time. The marking are used as a reference for City personnel and do not necessarily indicate a problem.
If you have any questions or would like to obtain more information, please call John Geller, Utilities Director, at 740.403.6100.
Thank you for your cooperation!
