is a "Cops and Kids" oriented program which brings the young people together with the police officers who are there to help them. It gives both groups an opportunity to interact with each other and learn what will really make a difference for both groups in our community.
of Beat the Heat, Inc. are:
* To help educate the young people of our communities about the real problems of illegal drug and alcohol use;
* To educate everyone of the horrors of alcohol/drug impaired driving;
* To promote a better understanding between the police and the communities they serve;
* To educate the general public about drag racing and encourage everyone not to race in the street.
The theme of our program is "Racing for Education". Three of our four goals specifically state some kind of education. We can only make an attempt with the adults to get them to use their heads and think before they act. However, we CAN get the attention of the youth and they are very capable of learning. We encourage these young people to STAY IN SCHOOL AND OFF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL!
Beat the Heat, Inc. also offers alternative extra-curricular activities. Handicap Drag Racing is a sport in which anyone who can drive can participate on a fair and equal basis with everyone else.
The racecar is used to raise awareness of illegal drug and alcohol use and dangerous street racing. We race exclusively at National Trails Raceway during Friday Night Street Legal Drags.
Seized from a multiple D.U.I. violator, our racecar is a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger sporting a 450 horsepower 360 c.i. small block V8. It is also equipped with a six-point roll bar as required by NHRA rules.
Beat the Heat, Inc. is a non-profit organization. No tax dollars are used to support the program. Donations are welcome to help pay for parts, painting and detailing the car, a trailer to haul the vehicle, as well as regular maintenance on the car. Since the organization is a non-profit, contributors can use their donations as a tax write-off. Corporate sponsors may make arrangements to have their company logo advertised on the car. To make a donation, please contact Chief Tony Shepherd. |
